TOLEDO, OH – Toledo wrapped up play at the Inverness Intercollegiate in 10
th place on Tuesday. The 11
th-annual tournament was played at the historic Inverness Club (Par-71, 7,323 Yards).
The Rockets posted a team score of 55-over par 907 during the course of two days to finish second among five Mid-American Conference teams.
Senior
Otto Black (78-74-74) paced UT at 13-over par 226 and tied for 31
st place. Â Sophomore
Colin Joseph (74-77-76) finished just one stroke behind Black at 14-over par 227 and tied for the 35
th spot, followed closely by sophomore
Stephen Watts (77-71-81) at 16-over par 229 and freshman
Spencer Shoemaker (78-76-76) at 17-over par 230 to tie for the 40
th and 46
th spots, respectively. Rounding out UT's lineup was freshman
Mike Lee (77-83-77), who posted a three-round score of 24-over par 237 and tied for 65
th place. Â
Pac-12 Conference member California secured the team title at 25-over par 877 (291-293-293) and held a three-stroke cushion over last year's champion East Tennessee State at 28-over par 586 (293-293-294).
Individually, Michigan State's Mitch Rutledge captured medalist honors at two-under par 211 (75-70-66). Rutledge fired a tourney best five-under par 66 in today's final round to post a three-shot victory over runner-up Michigan's Kyle Mueller at one-over par 214 (70-74-70). Rutledge just missed the lowest single round score in tourney history by a mere one shot. Kent State's Sebastian Bendsen and Kentucky's J.B. Holmes hold the tourney record with a 65 last fall and in 2004, respectively.
The Rockets will return to the links on Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 5-6 when they participate in the Firestone Invitational in Akron, OH.
