AKRON, OH - Toledo will hit the links to participate in the Firestone Invitational on Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 5-6. The tournament will be hosted by Mid-American Conference member Akron and held at the legendary Firestone Country Club - The North Course (Par-72, 7,125 Yards).

The 54-hole event will begin on Monday at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start and continuous play for 36 holes. Tuesday's final round is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. with split tee times on holes 1 & 10.

UT will be joined in the 16-team field by MAC members Akron, Ball State, Eastern Michigan and Ohio. The tourney also includes Eastern Kentucky, Francis Marion, Georgetown, Illinois State, Maryland, Old Dominion, South Carolina-Aiken, Valparaiso, Western Kentucky, William & Mary and Xavier — Oklahoma State (two individuals).

Toledo is coming off a 10th place showing at the Inverness Intercollegiate on Sept. 21-22 at the renowned Inverness Club (Par-71, 7,323 Yards). The Rockets posted a team score of 55-over par 907 during the course of two days of competition to finish second among five conference teams.

Individually, senior Otto Black (78-74-74) paced UT at 13-over par 226 and tied for 31st place. Sophomore Colin Joseph (74-77-76) finished just one stroke behind Black at 14-over par 227 and tied for the 35th spot, followed closely by sophomore Stephen Watts (77-71-81) at 16-over par 229 and freshman Spencer Shoemaker (78-76-76) at 17-over par 230 to tie for the 40th and 46th spots, respectively.

Through three events this fall, Black is leading the squad with a 72.5 stroke average, followed by Watts (74.4), Shoemaker (75.2), Joseph (75.8), Lee (76.5), freshman Jamie Knipe (76.8) and senior Thomas Shindler (79.0).

The Rockets will participate in the Firestone Invitational for the fourth time in the last seven years and first time since 2011. Four years ago, UT carded a team score of 13-over par 877 to finish in 11th place among 17 teams. Individually, former Rocket Chris Selfridge tied for ninth place at four-under par 212 (74-67-71) to lead the Midnight Blue & Gold, while Dugan Murphy tied for 22nd place at one-over par 217 (74-71-72).

The North Course at the world-renowned Firestone Country Club opened in 1969 and has been rated by Golf Digest as one of Ohio's top-10 courses.
