Toledo Stands in 12th Place Following Opening Two Rounds of Firestone Invitational

AKRON, OH – Toledo finds itself in 12th place after the initial 36 holes at the Firestone Invitational on Monday. The tournament is being hosted by Mid-American Conference member Akron at the renowned Firestone Country Club – North Course (Par-72, 7,125 Yards).
The Rockets are being led by senior Otto Black, who sits alone in second place at seven-under par 137 (69-68). The three-time All-MAC honoree was simply brilliant over the course of today's opening two rounds, recording 10 birdies and three bogeys. Black is only one shot off the pace of frontrunner Maryland's David Kocher at eight-under par 136 (68-68). There are currently 19 golfers under par among the 91 players in the two-day tourney.
Sophomore Colin Joseph is the next closest Rocket at four-over par 148 (72-76) to stand tied for 51st place. Immediately below Joseph are the trio of sophomore Stephen Watts at six-over par 150 (74-76), freshman Spencer Shoemaker at seven-over par 151 (76-75) and fellow newcomer Mike Lee at eight-over par 152 (76-76) to sit tied for 51st, tied for 57th and tied for 64th spots, respectively.
Freshman Jamie Knipe is also taking part in the two-day event as an individual and sits at 15-over par 159 (83-76), good for 87th place.
The Terrapins are leading the team standings at seven-under par 569 (284-285) and hold a four-stroke cushion over the host Zips at three-under par 573 (290-283).
The third and final round of the two-day tourney will be held on Tuesday with Toledo's tee times beginning at 10:00 a.m. off hole No. 10.
