
Rockets Produce 14-Hit Attack to Roll to 11-4 Win at Eastern Michigan

YPSILANTI, MI – Toledo (24-30, 16-10 MAC) slugged three home runs and collected 14 hits on Friday afternoon in an 11-4 triumph over Eastern Michigan (19-35, 8-18 MAC) at Oestrike Stadium. The victory assured the Rockets of being no worse than the No. 4 seed in next week's Mid-American Conference Tournament.
Sophomore southpaw Steven Calhoun (6-5) tied senior Cameron Palmer for the team lead in victories with his sixth of the season by allowing just one unearned run and six hits in five innings of work. Senior Andrew Marra and junior Ross Achter closed out the game with two innings of relief apiece.
Ryan Lavoie (2-6) pitched all nine innings for Eagles, allowing 11 runs and 14 hits with four walks and four strikeouts.
Junior RF Ryan Callahan (2-for-4, R, HR) powered the Rocket attack with five RBI with junior CF John Martilotta (3-for-5, 3 R, 1 RBI) and junior DH Tyler Baar (3-for-5, R, HR, 3 RBI) each collecting a team-high three hits. Freshman LF A.J. Montoya (2-for-4, 1 R, 2 RBI) and junior SS Deion Tansel (2-for-5, 2 R) also posted multi-hit outings for UT.
Toledo jumped on EMU early with three first-inning runs. Martilotta's single to left field plated the first run of the game and Callahan added two more with a two-out single to center run.
After the Eagles scored a run in the second, Callahan extended UT's lead to 5-1 with a two-run homer over the left-field fence. Two more Rocket runs came in the fifth on Callahan's sacrifice fly and Baar's single to left field.
The final four Toledo runs came via the long ball as Baar hit a two-run shot in the seventh and Montoya added his team-best ninth home run in the eighth.
The Rockets conclude their regular season tomorrow with their series final vs. the Eagles. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
