Rockets' Rally Falls Short in 10-7 Defeat at Eastern Michigan

YPSILANTI, MI – Toledo (24-31, 16-11 MAC) couldn't overcome an early deficit on Saturday afternoon in a 10-7 setback at Eastern Michigan (20-35, 9-18 MAC). The contest was the Rockets' final regular-season game prior to next week's Mid-American Conference Tournament. UT is the No. 4 seed in the conference tourney and will meet No. 5 seed Ball State in the opening round on Wednesday, May 20 at 8:00 p.m.
Freshman LF AJ Montoya was sensational at the plate with a 5-for-5 performance, while freshman 2B Matt Hansen drove in a team-high three runs. Freshman 1B Dalton Bollinger was the only other Rocket to register a multi-hit outing with a 2-for-5 showing.
Junior righty Caleb Schillace (3-6) suffered the loss as he allowed five runs and four hits in 1.2 innings. Senior RHP Jake Andrews (3-6) earned the victory for EMU by allowing six runs (three earned) in six innings.
Senior John Rubino topped the Eagles' 12-hit attack with a 4-for-4 effort.
Eastern Michigan held a 9-3 lead after six innings before the Rockets' mounted a rally with four runs in the seventh. Hansen delivered the Rockets' first two runs of the frame with a two-run double to left-center. Hansen came across on junior CF John Martilotta's groundout. Bollinger brought in UT's final run of the inning with a double down the left-field line.
