BLOOMINGTON, IN - With the Mid-American Conference Championships only a couple weeks away, Toledo will hit the links to participate in the NYX Hoosier Invitational on Saturday-Sunday, April 11-12. The tournament is being hosted by Big Ten Conference member Indiana and will be held at the Indiana University Golf Course (Par-71, 6,813 Yards).
The tourney will consist of 54 holes with 36 holes being played on Saturday and the final 18 holes scheduled for Sunday. There will be a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday and 9:00 a.m. on Sunday.
UT will be joined in the 17-team field by MAC members Eastern Michigan and Miami. The tournament also includes Bradley, Cincinnati, Dayton, Drake, Evansville, Illinois State, host Indiana, IPFW, IUPUI, Oakland, Youngstown State, Western Illinois, Wisconsin and Xavier.
The Rockets' lineup at the NYX Hoosier Invitational will include junior Otto Black, freshman Stephen Watts, senior Chris Selfridge, senior Pat Cermak and freshman Colin Joseph. The Midnight Blue & Gold features a balanced lineup with four players separated by less than four strokes. Selfridge leads the way with a 72.9 stroke average followed by Black (73.8), Watts (75.6), Cermak (76.8) and Joseph (78.9).
UT will compete with a full roster for the first time in almost one month since finishing in 11th place at the Talis Park Challenge on March 15-16 at the Talis Park Golf Club (Par-71, 6,893 yards).
Selfridge captured medalist honors and Black tied for fifth place at the second-annual event in Naples, FL, making Toledo one of only two teams to have multiple players in the Top Five.
Selfridge (73-67-67=207, -6) fired a career-tying best four-under par 67 in each of the final two rounds to post a collegiate-low score of six-under par 208, finishing one stroke ahead of three golfers for the top spot. The Castledawson, Northern Ireland native secured medalist honors for the second time in his UT career and first since the Georgetown Intercollegiate on Oct. 22-23, 2012.
The Rockets will take part in this weekend's event for the third-straight year. A season ago, UT finished in seventh place and Black tied for 19th place in the individual rankings.
Host Indiana posted a 12-stroke victory over second-place Michigan to win the team title with a one-over par team score. The Wolverines' Brett McIntosh, who was competing as an individual, earned medalist honors with a four-under par 209.
