The Rockets lost to the Huskies 14-5 in five innings on Sunday.
DEKALB, IL - The Toledo softball team (12-22) was unable to get anything going on Sunday in a Mid-American Conference game at Northern Illinois, falling to the Huskies 14-5 in five innings at Mary M. Bell Field.
The Rockets are now 0-6 in league play.
UT got off to a strong start, scoring four runs in its first at-bat, but were limited to just one run the rest of the contest.
Junior OF Jessica Lemieux recorded her second-consecutive multi-hit game, going 2-for-2 with a double, run and walk. Freshman IF Samantha Showalter hit her first collegiate home run in a 2-for-2 game of her own with three RBI.
Lemieux led off the game with a double to center field, and later scored on a single by sophomore IFÂ Chandler Rice. Following a walk to sophomore OFÂ Celeste Fidge, Showalter stepped up to the plate and smashed a three-run homer over the left centerfield fence.
The Huskies bounced back in the bottom of the first inning, scoring four runs of their own, and the onslaught continued, with four more runs in each of the second and third innings.
UT added one run in the top of the fourth inning, as senior OF Alyssa Smith scored on a fielder's choice, but the game was out of reach.
Toledo also committed five fielding errors in the contest.
The Rockets will hit the road for a midweek matchup at Michigan State on Wednesday, April 8, then will return home for conference games against Ball State and Miami next weekend.
