TOLEDO, OH – The Toledo women's swimming and diving team returns to action this weekend Dec. 3-5 when they compete in the 22nd Annual Miami Invitational in Oxford, OH. Toledo will join host Miami, Denison, Emory, Ball State and Urbana in the Nixon Aquatic Center. Kentucky, Cincinnati and Wright State will have divers competing in the invitational. The meet will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 3.
"We're looking forward to the Miami Invite," said head coach Chris Peters. "It'll be a great opportunity to put all our hard work to the test. It's the same format as our MAC Championships so the ladies will get a chance to work on things that directly apply to our champion season."
At last season's meet, UT finished in second place and recorded five first-place finishes. Sophomore Katrin Streicher touched first in the 100 and 200-yard butterfly, senior Sammy Richart placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke, and the Rockets' relay team was victorious in the 400-yard medley relay.
"Our goals are simple, we want to create the most energy we possibly can both in and out of pool," Peters said. "We will go for PR's and race hard, but what we really want to do is to own our swims and go get it, be aggressive...not wait for it to come to us or be reactionary."
The Rockets are 2-3 in dual meets so far this season, including a 139-92 defeat over Duquesne on Nov. 7 and a 195-105 victory over Ball State on Oct. 23. Toledo recorded a combine 13 first-place finishes in those two meets.
