CARMEL, IN - Toledo will compete at the Crooked Stick Intercollegiate on Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 12-13. The 54-hole tournament will be played on the Par-72, 7,516-yard layout at the Crooked Stick Golf Club. Pete Dye designed the course which opened in 1964.
The event will begin on Monday at 9:00 a.m. with a shotgun start and continuous play for 36 holes. Tuesday's final round is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. with split tee times on holes 1 & 10.
The Rockets will compete against an 11-team field that includes Ball State, Duke, Eastern Michigan, Illinois, host Indiana, IUPUI, Kentucky, Northern Illinois, Notre Dame, Purdue and Xavier. Headlining this year's field will be four programs - No. 1 Illinois, No. 10 Duke, No. 20 Purdue, No. 35 Kentucky - that are ranked in the Top 50 of the most recent golfweek.com rankings.
UT is coming off a 10th-place tie at the Firestone Invitational at the renowned Firestone Country Club - North Course earlier this week. Senior Otto Black tied for second place at a collegiate-best eight-under par 208 (69-68-71) to pace the Midnight Blue & Gold at the Firestone event. Black posted 12 birdies and one eagle during the tourney to record his ninth Top 5 finish of his collegiate career, including third in four events so far this fall. Sophomore Colin Joseph was the next closest Rocket at four-over par 220 (72-76-72) to finish tied for 42nd place.
Overall this fall, Black is leading Toledo with a 71.6-stroke average with sophomore Stephen Watts, freshman Spencer Shoemaker and Joseph ranking second, third and fourth with 74.5, 75.0 and 75.1 marks, respectively. Joining the aforementioned foursome at the tourney will be freshman Mike Lee.
The Rockets most recently played in the Crooked Stick Intercollegiate in 2013 when they finished 10th out of 14 teams at 57-over par 921 (303-313-305). UT finished five strokes ahead of fellow MAC member Eastern Michigan (310-305-311=926) and nine in front of Ball State (320-299-311=930). Former Rocket Chris Selfridge paced the Midnight Blue & Gold by tying for 25th place at 12-over par 228 (78-75-75) with Black one stroke behind tied for 29th place at 13-over par 229 (75-77-77).

Crooked Stick has a rich history in terms of world-class championship golf. They have hosted five USGA Championships, including the 1993 U.S. Women's Open and most recently the 2009 U.S. Senior Open. John Daly's historic win in the 1991 PGA Championship, the United States victory in the 2005 Solheim Cup and Rory McIlroy's win at the 2012 BMW Championship have also been highlights of the Club's competitive golf history.
Following the Crooked Stick Intercollegiate, UT will travel to Bridgeport, WV to take part in the Mountaineer Intercollegiate on Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 19-20.
