PERRYSBURG, OH – Freshman Spencer Shoemaker secured medalist honors at the second-annual Rocket Individual Classic on Sunday at Belmont Country Club (Par-72, 6,918 yards). Shoemaker fired a two-round score of five-over par 149 (77-72) to register a three-shot triumph over teammate senior Thomas Shindler (78-74), Ball State's Tyler Ostrom (79-73) and Bowling Green's Mitchell Kontak (78-74) at eight-over par 152.
Shoemaker shot five-over par 77 in today's first round and an even-par 72 during the second round to capture medalist honors for the first time in his young collegiate career.
With today's effort, Shoemaker becomes the second-straight Rocket to claim medalist accolades at the final fall tourney of the season. A year ago, former letterwinner Mike Lancaster captured medalist accolades at one-over par 217 (74-70-73) at the inaugural event.
Following Shoemaker and Shindler, freshman Cameron Mills finished in 12th place at 14-over par 158 (80-78) and classmate Jamie Knipe tied for the 17th spot at 20-over par 164 (83-81).
The Rockets will open their spring season the MAC Match Play Championships on Feb. 8-9 in Lake Jovita, FL.
