Toledo Goes 1-0-1 at Season-Opening Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play Event

DADE CITY, FL – Toledo opened its spring season on Monday by posting a 1-0-1 record at the fifth-annual Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play at the Lake Jovita Country Club (Par 72, 7,153 Yards).
The No. 3 seed Rockets defeated No. 6 seed Dayton, 3.5-2.5, and tied No. 2 seed Notre Dame, 3-3. Unfortunately for UT, the Fighting Irish advanced on a tiebreaker based on the combined margin of victory in the individual matches.
This morning against the Flyers, the trio of sophomore Stephen Watts (5 & 3), sophomore Colin Joseph (2 Up) and freshman Spencer Shoemaker (4 & 3) posted UT's victories. Senior Otto Black also earned one half point for the defending co-champions, finishing his match all squared.
In the afternoon versus UND, the trio of freshman Cameron Mills (1 Up), Black (3 & 2) and Watts (4 & 3) claimed Toledo's victories. The match was ultimately decided based upon UND's combined 12-hole lead from Miguel Delgado (7 &5) and Kevin Conners (5 & 4).
The Rockets will now play No. 1 seed Miami for third place tomorrow beginning at 8:30 a.m.
