MUNCIE, IN – Sophomore Otto Black carded a pair of career-low 67s on Monday and Toledo holds a four-stroke lead over host Ball State at the Earl Yestingsmeier Memorial Invitational. The tournament is being played at the par-70, 6,438-yard Delaware Country Club.
The Rockets own a team total of 26-over par 726 (364-362) and have six golfers competing with the best five rounds counting as opposed to the usual five-count-four format.
Black's six-under par 134 is six strokes in front of Marian University's Vince Drahman (69-71=140). The Cardinals' Albert Jennings (71-71) and Tyler Ostrom (70-72) are tied for third place at two-over par 142.
Junior Jamie Richardson joined Black in the Top 10 and is tied for sixth place at three-over par 143 (71-72). Junior Pat Cermak is tied for 13th place at eight-over par 148 (73-75), while junior Mike Lancaster is tied for 26th place at 11-over par 151 (76-75).
Sophomores Thomas Shindler (79-73) and Bobby Thomas (77-75) are tied for 31st place at 12-over par 152 (77-75). Freshman Jon Ransone is competing as an individual and tied for 20th place at 10-over par 150 (76-74).
The tournament has been named in honor of Yestingsmeier since 2001-02, but this is the first year it has been a memorial event. Yestingsmeier, who passed away in January at age 80, spent 36 seasons leading the program before retiring in 1998. He guided the Cardinals to 107 tournament titles and 11 NCAA Tournament appearances during his tenure.
The final 18 holes will begin on Tuesday with a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start.
