Rockets Capture Seventh Straight With 7-0 Triumph Over Denison

TOLEDO, OH - Toledo wrapped up non-conference play with an easy 7-0 win over Denison on Saturday afternoon inside Toledo Shadow Valley Club. The Rockets pushed their win streak to seven, while improving to 18-6 overall heading into Mid-American Conference action next weekend.
"We're proud of an excellent non-conference season that gave us plenty of challenging matches," UT head coach Al Wermer said. "That's the best proving ground to develop our games."
The Midnight Blue & Gold sent out its normal lineup and quickly grabbed the all-important doubles point to gain the early 1-0 advantage.
Sophomore tandem Tomas Stillman and Nicky Wong cruised by the Big Red's duo in the top flight by a score of 8-2. With the win, the No. 1 UT doubles team extended its win streak to five and improved its record to 13-7.
In the second flight, sophomore Grant Adams and senior Francisco Stuardo came away with an 8-1 victory. Adams and Stuardo are now 7-3 after the previous 10 matches.
Bryant Dudzik teamed up with his usual partner Ryan Jorgensen to claim the final doubles match, 8-5. The senior-freshman duo improved to 9-2 overall, extending their win streak to six matches.
"A few times this year, we've played to the level of our opponent," Wermer said. "Today, most of the guys' focus and intensity was solid."
UT kept the momentum rolling through singles competition with straight-set victories in every matchup.
Stillman, the reigning MAC Player of the Week, notched his fifth-consecutive win at the top spot over Denison's Cempre 6-1, 6-4.
Adams remained untouchable at No. 2 singles (15-0) by clinching a win in his 16th-straight outing. His overall singles record moved to 19-3 on the season.
Stuardo, Wong and Duzik notched wins in the third, fourth and sixth spots, respectively, while senior Terence Weigand got in on the action at No. 5 singles with his 14th triumph of the season.
Toledo opens MAC play next weekend versus Ball State on Saturday, March 30. Start time from the UT Varsity Tennis Courts is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
