
J.D. Weatherspoon Named MAC Male Scholar-Athlete of Week

Toledo, OH - Junior forward J.D. Weatherspoon has been named the Mid-American Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday. It is the first time Weatherspoon has received this award.
An individualized studies major with a 3.371 grade-point average, Weatherspoon scored a career-high 16 points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds to help Toledo maintain its unbeaten record with a 77-61 victory over Sam Houston State. Weatherspoon shot 7-of-10 from the field and also dished out a career-high three assists.
A Columbus, OH native, Weatherspoon is averaging 10.6 points per game and grabbing a team-high 5.5 rebounds per game.
The MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
Weatherspoon and the Rockets bring a perfect 10-0 record into Saturday's home matinee vs. Cleveland State. Tip-off time in Savage Arena is set for 2:00 p.m.
