Clearwater, FL - On the second day of competition in the USF Under Armour Showcase, the Toledo softball team dropped its two games, falling to Villanova, 7-2, and Virginia Tech, 8-0.
In the first game of the day, the Rockets (5-15, 0-0 MAC) fell to Villanova, 7-2, despite both teams tallying nine hits on the day. UT actually led 2-0 after the top of the second inning, but Villanova was able tie the game in the bottom half of the inning and score five additional runs along the way for a convincing victory.
The two-run Toledo second inning got underway with a lead-off single up the middle by Jillian Spink. Two batters later, Morgan Smith was able to draw a walk before Allissa Turkovich doubled down the leftfield line to score Spink and advance Smith to third. The next batter, Brooke Gates, hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield, recording an RBI as Smith scored.
Toledo was blanked 8-0 by Virginia Tech in six innings in the second contest. The Rockets were only able to accumulate five hits and tallied four errors in the game.
UT will wrap up its stint in Florida with its last game in the Under Armour Showcase tomorrow, playing against Kennesaw State at 11:15 a.m.
