
Rockets Top Ball State for Weekend?s Second Win

Muncie, IN - For the second day in a row, the Toledo swimming and diving team emerged from a dual-meet victorious. This time it was a meeting against Mid-American Conference foe Ball State on Saturday, Jan. 21, in which UT posted a 185-115 win.
The Rockets (4-2, 3-0) controlled the water, scoring top-finishes in 13 out of the 16 events. The Midnight Blue and Gold won the first seven events of the contest before a BSU athlete's name was at the top of the results list.
The 200 medley relay team - made up of sophomores Christina Noens and Beth Rogers, junior Carly Harter and senior Laura Lindsay - kicked off the meet with a narrow win. Finishing in a time of 1:46.40, UT out-touched second-place Ball State by just .25 seconds.
The next event, the 1000 freestyle, saw Toledo score a 1-2-3 finish as sophomore Rachel Johnson won in a time of 10:21.02, followed by senior Claire Leichty in second (10:30.45) and junior Gillian Staudt in third (10:39.90).
Harter topped the field in the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:52.43, before Noens and freshman Maria Bargardi placed first and second, respectively, in the 100 backstroke. Noens was clocked at 58.01, with Bargardi finishing in 58.56.
Lindsay swam to victory in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.33) and the 200 breaststroke (2:21.30), followed by Rogers' win in the 200 butterfly (2:03.99) and the 100 butterfly (55.56). Harter also added two more wins to her achievement list, winning the 50 freestyle in 24.29 and the 100 freestyle in 52.57.
Noens followed suit with her second individual victory of the day, taking first in the 200 backstroke in 2:05.69. Leichty and senior Louise Smyth finished first and second in the 500 freestyle with times of 5:05.59 and 5:07.84, respectively.
UT closed out the meet with a victory in the 400 freestyle relay. The team of Johnson, Leichty, junior McKenzie Bagan and Rogers won in a time of 3:33.25.
"It was a challenging weekend being on the road for meets against Denison and Ball State," said head coach Liz Hinkleman. "Both teams gave us great competition and we look forward to racing against them again."
Toledo's next showdown is on Saturday, Jan. 28, as the team hosts Eastern Michigan in the last home meet of the season before the MAC championships. Four Rocket seniors will be honored prior to the meet.
