
Two Rockets Named to Academic All-MAC Team

TOLEDO, OH - Sophomores Joe Corfman and Matt Delewski have been named to the 2010 Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team, the league office announced this morning. The Rockets' duo are first-time honorees to the squad.
The 17-member team was voted on by the league's Faculty Athletic Representatives from among a list of student-athletes who have excelled in athletic and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
Corfman, a finance major, possesses a 3.717 GPA. He hit a sizzling .383 with a squad-best 69 runs scored, a team-high 20 doubles, seven home runs, a squad-best 61 RBI and a team-high 15 stolen bases this spring. The first-team All-MAC honoree started all 56 games at third base, ranking third in the league in runs scored, fifth in RBI, sixth in batting average, tied for sixth in doubles, eighth in hits (88) and tied for ninth in stolen bases. He hit safely in 45 contests in 2010, including 27 multi-hit and a team-high 17 multi-RBI efforts, earning ABCA/Rawlings All-Mideast Region first-team accolades.
The Richfield, OH native also ranks fourth in UT annals in career batting average (.355), as well as second in runs scored (69), tied for second in doubles (20) and RBI (61), third in hits (88) and fifth in total bases (131, 2010) in the single-season recordbook.
Delewski, an exercise science major, holds a 3.223 GPA. The 2010 first-team All-MAC honoree started 44 of 50 contests, batting .377 with 30 runs scored, 11 doubles, two home runs and 35 RBI. He hit safely in 36 contests, including 19 multi-hit and nine multi-RBI efforts. The Maple Heights, OH native ranked seventh in the MAC in batting average.
Corfman and Delewski helped lead the 2010 Rockets to an impressive 34-22 overall record and a 19-8 mark in the MAC West Division, advancing to the league tournament for the third time in the last four seasons.
