TOLEDO, OH - Toledo travels to Nashport, OH this weekend to compete in the 2010 Mid-American Conference Men's Golf Championship at the par-72, 7,243-yard Longaberger Golf Club. The 72-hole tournament features nine schools and begins with 36 holes on Friday, April 30, followed by 18 holes each on Saturday, May 1 and Sunday, May 2.
Longaberger is hosting the MAC Championship for the second time with Kent State serving as the host school this year. The course is located about 45 miles east of Columbus off State Route 16, north of the intersection with State Route 146 in eastern Licking County.
Toledo enters the championship with some momentum, posting a Top 10 finish in each of its last four events. UT has placed ninth at UCF's Rio Pinar Invitational on March 15-16, sixth at the Irish Creek Collegiate on April 3-4, eighth at the UK Bluegrass Invitational on April 10-11 and fifth at last weekend's Boilermaker Invitational. Junior Ben Boyer led the Rockets at Purdue with a career-low one-under par 215 to finish third in the event.
Boyer has a team-best 74.6 stroke average and is tied for the team lead with junior Jean-Hubert Trahan. Sophomore Michael Cermak and freshman Josh Agin are vying for team's top scoring average with 74.8 and 75.1 marks, respectively. Senior Jerel Whiting will also be competing this weekend and possesses a 75.9 stroke average.
The Rockets registered a third-place showing at the 2009 MAC Championships with Boyer pacing UT in the tournament with a one-over par 289 (75-73-71-70) to finish alone in eighth place. Cermak was right behind him in ninth place with a two-over par 290 (77-71-73-69), while Trahan tied for 13th place at six-over par 294 (75-74-75-70).
