BOWLING GREEN, OH - Toledo holds a commanding 13-stroke lead over Western Michigan following Saturday's first round of the Falcon Invitational at Stone Ridge Golf Club. The Rockets shot a 29-over par 317 and are looking to repeat as champions of the event and capture the tournament title for the eighth time since 1996.
Senior Marguerite Johnson paced UT and leads the field with a three-over par 75, three strokes better than her nearest competitor. Sophomore Georgina Hunt is in a three-way tie for second place after carding a six-over par 78, while junior Michelle Hui is tied for eighth place at nine-over par 81. Rounding out the Rocket lineup are junior Erica Rivard in a 14th-place tie and sophomore Piyathida Chaiyapan in a 41st-place tie with rounds of 83 and 87, respectively.
Also competing for Toledo in the tournament as individuals were junior Emily Hardcastle (81/T-8th) and sophomore Kaitlyn Van Gunten (86/T-31).
"The conditions were difficult with some very strong winds and I was happy to see Marguerite and Georgie shoot the scores they were able to," Toledo Head Coach Nicole Hollingsworth said. "Hopefully we can play well again tomorrow and bring home a championship."
The final round of the tournament will be held on Sunday with the Rockets teeing off the first tee at 10:00 a.m.
