TOLEDO, OH - The University of Toledo men's golf program will compete in five tournaments this fall and six more in the spring as part of its 2009-10 campaign, head coach Jamie Mauntler announced today.
Toledo will be looking to build upon a third-place finish at last year's Mid-American Conference Championship. Juniors Ben Boyer and Jean-Hubert Trahan led the way last season for the Rockets with 75.3 and 75.5 stroke averages, respectively.
The Rockets open their season at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate on Sept. 12-13 in Zionsville, IN followed by a short trip north on Sept. 26-27 to Ann Arbor, MI for the Wolverine at Radrick Farms. UT will then take two weeks off before ending the fall campaign with three tournaments in a span of 13 days. Toledo will compete in Akron's Firestone Invitational on Oct. 12-13, the Dayton Fall Invite at NCR Country Club on Oct. 19-20 and the UNC Greensboro's Bridgestone Intercollegiate on Oct. 24-25.
"We're going to have a veteran squad this season, and we want to build off last year's solid finish," Mauntler said. "Our schedule is going to provide us some good competition and we're also going to have the chance to play some high quality golf courses."
Toledo commences its spring campaign with the three-day Mobile Bay Intercollegiate on Feb. 21-23 in Mobile, AL. The Rockets will then head to Florida for spring break where it will compete in West Florida's Argonaut Invitational on Mar. 8-9 and UCF's Rio Pinar Invitational on Mar. 15-16. Following a two-week break, UT visits North Carolina for the Irish Creek Collegiate to be played at the Davis Love III Signature Course. Toledo will receive its final tuneups prior to the MAC Championships at Kentucky's Bluegrass Invitational (Apr. 10-11) and Purdue's Boilermaker Invitational (Apr. 24-25). The MAC Championships will be held at Longaberger Golf Club in Nashport, IN on May 1-3.
