DAYTON, OH - Toledo saw its five-game winning streak come to an end with a 7-6 setback at Wright State under the lights at Nischwitz Stadium. With the loss, the Rockets fall to 23-22 on the season.
UT finished with 13 hits and held the lead for the majority of the contest, but a three-run home run in the seventh inning proved to be the difference in the non-conference match-up.
Senior Todd Thomas, the second of four UT hurlers, was tagged with the loss. Thomas surrendered four runs on four hits in two innings of action.
Offensively, sophomore Josh Colliver led the way with four hits, while juniors Scott Boley and Jake Swint and sophomore Jake Oester finished with two hits apiece.
After spotting the Raiders (29-18) a run in the first inning, the Rockets exploded for three runs in the third on a three-run blast off the bat of junior Drew Hoisington. The Cuyahoga Falls, OH native now leads the team with 11 home runs, which ranks as the seventh-most in school history in a single season.
In the fourth, WSU cut the deficit to 4-3 on the strength of a two-run home run by Brian Shoup.
UT quickly responded with three runs in the fifth to end the evening for WSU starter Ross Vagedes. The visitors did all their damage after the first two outs of the frame were recorded. Junior Nate McKeon, Oester and Colliver were credited with RBIs in the frame to help establish a 6-3 lead.
The Rockets' lead would stand until the seventh when the home team exploded for four runs on four hits to seize the victory. The four WSU batters reached base off Thomas and Ross Oeder provided the difference with the game-clinching three-run home run.
The Midnight Blue and Gold return to action on Friday, May 11 to begin a three-game MAC series at Eastern Michigan. The first pitch is slated for 6:00 p.m.
