Final Stats
Toledo, Ohio - Toledo softball shut out Northern Illinois on Senior Day, 3-0. Both Stephanie Moore and Denise Van Vossen played their last games in a Rocket uniform this afternoon.
"Our win today was a great way for Steph and Denise to end their senior year," said Head Coach Jo Ann Gordon. "Especially with their families there to watch."
Moore pitched all seven innings and recorded the win for the Rockets. She struck out a season high eight batters and allowed only four hit in 23 at bats.
It wasn't until the fourth inning before Toledo was able to score the first run. Leslie Stong started the inning off with a single, Alison Hess reached base with a fielders choice and Valerie Moxim followed with a single. Lacey LeVier grounded out to the shortstop but Hess was able to score and give Toledo the lead.
The Rockets then scored another two runs in the fifth inning. Kate Ricchio doubled and Stong singled sending Ricchio home for the first run of the inning. Hess then got a base hit and Moxim followed sending Stong home for the second run of the inning and the final run of the game.
Toledo finished with eight hits and three runs while NIU finished with four hits and no runs.
Three Rockets ended the season in the UT record books. Stong finished third in slugging percentage (.600) and second in walks (32) in a single season. She finished second in home runs (18) and walks (74) in a career. Hess tied for third with home runs (7) and captured first with hit by a pitch (17) for a single season. She is also in first place for her career for being hit by a pitch with 26. Moore leaves with three career records, she is in first place for career starts (104), fifth place for game appearances (120) and innings pitched (628.3).
As a team, the Rockets are in third place with 24 homers this season and tied for second with a .358 slugging percentage this season.
