Athens, OH - After a cancelled series against Akron and postponed game against Ohio, Toledo softball was finally able to play this Sunday afternoon. The Rockets faced the Bobcats in a doubled header, losing the first game 7-0 in five innings and 6-1 in the second game. UT is now 6-20 overall and 2-4 in the MAC.
In the first game, the first inning ended scoreless for both teams. In the top of the second inning the Rockets went three-up-three-down and OU got the bats going, scoring five runs.
After another scoreless inning in the third, Toledo looked to be in scoring range in the fourth. Junior Leslie Stong walk and then sophomore Alison Hess hit a double advancing Stong to third with only one out. The Rockets, however, were not able to finish the inning with a run.
The rest of the game remained scoreless for Toledo as Ohio scored three more runs. UT finished with only two hits in 17 at bats. Both senior Stephanie Moore and freshman Hannah Rockhold pitched this game combining for five strikeouts.
In the second game Toledo came out with a new line-up and unmarked scoreboard. The Rocket defense held the powerful OU offense to three scoreless innings. Stong was injured in the first inning when she was hit by a pitch, she would later reenter only to bat.
Then in the bottom of the fourth inning the Bobcats got their bats going again, scoring six runs on the Rocket's defense. To get UT out of the fifth inning with no runs scored against them, sophomore Brie Ford produced a double play.
In the seventh inning the Rockets finally got their bats going again. Stong lead off with a walk then Hess hit a single. Megan McCauley hit a fielder's choice and was out a first but advance Stong into scoring position and Hess to second. With two outs, Valerie Moxim hit a single allowing Stong to score the first run for the Rockets all day.
The Midnight Blue and Gold will take to the field again this coming Friday, April 13, where they will host Ball State in a doubleheader beginning at 1 PM.
