Softball Splits With Youngstown State

Final Stats
Youngstown, OH - The University of Toledo softball team split a doubleheader this afternoon with Youngstown State. The Rockets won the first game 8-6 and then lost the second game 9-8.
In the first inning the Rockets took the lead when Kate Ricchio scored on a throwing error by the catcher. UT kept Youngstown to two scoreless at bats before increasing their lead by three in the third inning.
YSU began to fight back scoring one run in the bottom of the third. The Rockets continued to add to the score, scoring another two runs in the fourth. In the top of the sixth, junior Valerie Moxim hit her second homerun in a week allowing Toledo to score three runs.
In the second game, the Penguins took the lead early scoring five runs in the first three innings and keeping the Rockets scoreless. Then in the top of the fourth inning sophomore Alison Hess hit her sixth homerun of the season, scoring two runs.
Senior Denise Van Vossen hit her first homerun in the top of the fifth allowing Toledo to score three unanswered runs. The Rocket's bats continued to connect scoring two more runs in the sixth and three in the seventh. Unfortunately so did the Penguins, YSU scored four runs in the last two innings to win the game.
On the offensive side, Hess had two hits, a homerun and a double and was hit by a pitch two times to bring her season total to 17. Junior Leslie Stong had five hits a double and was walked three times. Freshman Lacey LeVier had three hits, a double and four RBI. Moxim had three hits, a homerun and 6 RBI.
The Midnight Blue and Gold will be on the road this weekend traveling to Central Michigan on Friday for a doubleheader and playing at Eastern Michigan on Saturday and Sunday.
