Toledo Drops 14-8 Decision at Dallas Baptist

DALLAS, TX - Dallas Baptist (10-7) scored runs in five innings and defeated Toledo by a score of 14-8 on Saturday afternoon at Patriot Field.
The Rockets (4-6) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, scoring two runs on RBI's by senior Joel Visser and junior Scott Boley
The Patriots responded in the bottom of the second inning. Evan Bigley doubled off the left field wall to start the inning and moved to third on a passed ball. Matt Tucker followed by drawing a walk and Jimmy Thoma added a sacrifice fly to score Bigley. Brandon Bantz and JT Bloodworth each added RBI doubles to give DBU a 3-2 lead.
DBU added two more runs in the bottom of the third inning, on a two-run homerun by Garrett Baker..
In the bottom of the fourth, DBU added five more runs. Bloodworth was hit by a pitch to start the inning and Austin Krum added a single. Austin Knight followed with a RBI single and Baker had a RBI sacrifice fly. Bigley added a double and Tucker had a RBI single. Thoma followed with a RBI groundout and Ryan Enos reached on an error, scoring another run, leaving the score 10-2.
DBU scored another run in the sixth inning, after Enos walked to start the inning and later scored after consecutive doubles by Bantz and Bloodworth and a RBI fielder's choice by Krum, increasing the Patriot lead to 11-3.
Toledo scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning on a RBI single by junior Drew Hoisington, but DBU responded with three unearned runs in the bottom half of the inning. Tucker singled with two outs and scored after Thoma reached on an error by Toledo. Enos was hit by a pitch and Bantz added a two RBI triple, leaving the score 14-4.
The Rockets added four more runs in their final two at-bats, using four hits, including a two-run blast by Scott Boley to close the score to 14-8, which would be the final.
Senior Todd Thomas (1-1) was tagged with the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits in 2.2 innings.
Jereme Wilson picked up the win in the first game, pitching 6.1 innings, surrendering four runs on seven hits, improving to 1-3 on the season.
Leading UT at the plate was Hoisington, who went 3-for-5 for two runs scored and one RBI, while freshmen Josh Johnson and Tim Krofecheck had two hits apiece.
Toledo returns to action next weekend, Mar. 16-18, for a four-game series at West Virginia. The first pitch on Friday is slated for 4:00 p.m.
