Final Stats
Muncie, IN - The Toledo softball team took an early 2-0 lead, but fell victim to a late Ball State rally that ended in a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh as the Cardinals came away with a 3-2 victory on Sunday afternoon at the BSU Softball Complex. The Rockets fall to 12-28 overall, 3-8 in the Mid-American Conference.
The Rockets appreared to have solved the problem that has plagued them throughout the season, getting off to slow starts, with a solid first inning. Brie Ford hit a one-out triple and stole home later in the inning to score the first Rocket run.
Gina Muratori picked up UT's only other hit in the fourth inning with a single and came around to score later in the inning on a sacrifice fly by Alison Hess, giving Toledo a 2-0 lead which looked secure with solid Rocket pitching. However, the Rocket bats went cold the remainder of the game, with no more hits and just one baserunner as the Cardinals mounted their comeback.
Kelli Jeziorski won the game with a single in the seventh to score Sarah McGregor from second after a bobble by UT centerfielder Erica Singer.
The Rockets return to action on Wednesday in a single-game non-conference tilt at Notre Dame. Game time in South Bend, IN is 5 p.m.
