BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (AP) - Mawel Soler's 17 points, nine rebounds and five steals led Bowling Green to a 59-52 win Sunday over Toledo.
The Falcons (6-8, 2-2 Mid-American Conference) also got 11 points, five assists and five steals from Steven Wright in 32 minutes off the bench. Bowling Green guard Martin Samarco managed 12 points despite shooting 2-of-10 from 3-point range and just 3-of-21 (14 percent) overall.
Junior Justin Ingram led the Rockets (8-5, 1-4) with 15 points, while sophomore Kashif Payne's 10 points made him the only other Toledo player in double figures.
Toledo fell behind 13-2 in the first 10 minutes before an Ingram trey ignited a 9-2 Rocket spurt. UT then stayed within striking distance and took a 25-22 lead with 3:32 left in the first half on back-to-back treys from senior Sammy Villegas. Both teams went into the lockerroom at halftime with the score even at 27-27.
The Falcons then jumped out to a 40-33 lead in the second stanza before an 8-0 Rocket run gave UT a 41-40 advantage. BGSU then scored six straight points and the closest Toledo came the remainder of the game was 49-47 with 4:26 remaining.
Bowling Green won despite being outshot 39 percent to 33 percent. The Falcons went 20-of-24 from the free-throw line while Toledo made just 11 of 19 attempts, all of them coming in the second half.
The Rockets return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 18 with a trip to Oxford, OH to face MAC East leader Miami (8-5, 5-0 MAC). Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
