Toledo, OH - Toledo (9-12, 1-7 MAC) was unable to tame the Western Michigan Broncos (17-5, 8-0 MAC) today at Laurel Hill Swim & Tennis Club, as WMU coasted to its ninth 7-0 sweep of the season. The nationally ranked Broncos continued their flawless doubles and singles play against the Rockets, taking all the matches of today's contest. UT will wrap up its regular season tomorrow (April 23) when it faces Northern Illinois at 1:00 p.m.
Toledo could only muster a total of four points in doubles play, as Western Michigan took the first point of the match. Sophomore Myriam Cueva and junior Viviana Rivero were responsible for three of those points, losing an 8-3 battle at No. 1 doubles. WMU's nationally ranked doubles pair of Hiranrat and Saruta were too much for freshman Sarah Thompson and junior Daniella Moran at the No. 2 spot, as UT's twosome took an 8-1 loss. The Broncos closed out doubles play with an 8-0 sweep at the No. 3 position (Carmack/Smalley).
The Rockets could not overcome Western Michigan's singles play, falling in straight sets at all six spots. Cueva was able to take three points in both sets from Hiranrat, who possesses an undefeated MAC record at the No. 1 slot. Toledo was unsuccessful in scoring a single point at No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 singles, while both Rivero and Thompson took one point in one set against their opponents.
