Rockets Drop 14-12 Decision at Kentucky

Lexington, KY - Toledo's rally from an 11-run deficit fell just short this afternnon in a 14-12 setback at Kentucky. With the defeat, the Rockets fell to 1-5 on the season with the Wildcats improving to 9-1.
Kentucky scored in each of the first six innings and held a commanding 13-4 advantage heading into the seventh. At that point, the Rocket bats came alive for seven hits while drawing two walks to plate eight runs in the inning and slice the lead to one.
Jake Swint led Toledo's attack with three hits while four Rockets (Jason Watson, Dan Stong, Nick Lance and Dustin Sommer) registered two RBIs apiece. Sommer drilled the only homer in the game with a pinch-hit two-run shot down the left-field line in the sixth inning.
Senior Nick Szczur (1-1) took the loss for UT after allowing 12 hits and nine runs (seven earned) in four innings. Kentucky's Kalen Gibson (2-0) picked up the win, allowing five hits and two unearned runs in five innings of work.
