Hot Springs, VA - After making an early charge toward making the cut, Toledo completed its fourth appearance in the NCAA Championships with a 25th-place showing out of 30 teams. The Rockets jumped up to as high as 11th place on the leaderboard in their first six holes before finishing with a 44-over par 884 in their three rounds and missed the cut by 13 strokes.
UCLA holds a five-stroke lead after three rounds after firing the best round of the tournament with a five-under par 275. Georgia, Purdue and Southern California finished in a three-way tie for 15th place and needed a playoff to decide which team would move on to the fourth round.
Individually, UNLV's Ryan Moore leads the field with a nine-under par 201 after shooting a six-under par 64 for the lowest round of the tournament. Arizona's Chris Nallen is two strokes back in second place at 203, while Kentucky's Matt Wells is three back in third place at 204. Wake Forest's Bill Haas and UCLA's Travis Johnson are tied for fourth place at 205.
"The guys never gave up today and I'm very proud of their effort," UT Head Coach Jamie Mauntler said. "This course was probably the toughest we've played all season and we just couldn't build any momentum. It's been a great year for us and one that we'll always remember."
Senior Brad Heaven (71-74-74-219) and junior Richard Kilpatrick (74-70-75-219) shared low-scoring honors for the three rounds with a nine-over par 219 and are tied for 55th place.
Senior Doug Batty is tied for 87th place (73-74-75-222) at 12-over par. Batty was one-over par on the front nine but couldn't keep up the pace on the back nine.
Junior Justin Bertsch (76-75-74-225) is tied for 114th place at 15-over par. Bertsch registered two eagles on the day but was hurt by three double-bogeys.
Freshman Tyler Riley (77-74-75-226) is tied for 123rd place at 16-over par. Riley started out strong with two straight birdies and also finished with three birdies in his final six holes. However, he was eight-over from hole No. 3 to No. 12 including a quadruple bogey on the ninth hole.
