TOLEDO, OH - The Toledo women's tennis team snapped a 14-match losing streak with a 4-3 win against Buffalo at the UT Tennis Courts Friday afternoon.
The Rockets took the doubles point, winning two of three sets. Toledo prevailed at No. 1 as seniors Jen Meister and Monica Ribero overcame Miglena Nenova and Kristen Ortman 8-3. At No. 2, sophomore Myriam Cueva and freshman Claire Smalley beat Lisa Wittman and Sheri Ugowski, 8-3.
The Midnight Blue and Gold needed three singles wins to take the match, and that is exactly what it got. Cueva provided the match-clinching win over Nenova, by a 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 score at No. 1. Ribero won by default No. 2, while sophomore Daniella Moran came through with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Wittman at No. 4.
Toledo Head Coach Tracy Honko was happy to see her Rockets get back on the winning track.
"This is a big win for us," Honko said. "Anytime you can win in the conference, you have to feel pretty good about yourselves."
Next up, Toledo faces Akron in its regular-season finale on Saturday, April 17 at the UT Tennis Courts. Play is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
