Toledo, OH - The University of Toledo golf programs will be hosting summer golf camps for the first time next summer. Two individual camps will be held with the boys' camp taking place on June 20-24, 2004 and the girls' camp occurring on July 11-15, 2004. A team camp will be offered for boys' high school golf teams on June 27-30, 2004.
The individual camps will be limited to the first 40 golfers between the ages of 10-18 with their age and playing ability determining the groups for the week. Each day will consist of practice in the following areas: full swing, pitching, chipping and sand play, putting and playing. Other activities will include: course management of playing situations, strategy, rules and etiquette seminar, tablet/pen for taking notes, camp gift and tournament/camper awards.
The team camp will be limited to the first 12 high school boys' golf teams with each team bringing six players. Freshmen entering high school in the fall of 2004 are eligible. Each day will consist of practice in the following areas: full swing, pitching, chipping and sand play, putting and playing. On Monday and Tuesday, each team will practice for half of the day and play nine holes the other half. During the last day of camp there will be the final 18 holes of competition. Each team must be accompanied by their coach. Other activities will include: course management of playing situations, strategy, rules and etiquette seminar, camp gift, coach's gift, and end of camp tournament awards. On Monday and Tuesday, there will be a teaching session given by Coach Hollingsworth and Coach Mauntler during the 2:00-6:00 p.m. practice time.
Both head coaches, Nicole Hollingsworth and Jamie Mauntler, will be directors of all camps. Scotch Run Golf Center will be the host for all sessions dealing with practice and on-course management. Daily playing will take place at the South Toledo Golf Club.
"Coach Hollingsworth and I are excited about hosting a golf camp at the University of Toledo for the first time," Mauntler said. "The team camp is something that no one else in the state of Ohio is doing so we are really excited about this new concept."
"I am very thrilled that we are going to be able to have this camp," Hollingsworth said. "Scotch Run Golf Center and South Toledo Golf Club will be fantastic facilities for our camp and our campers will definitely enjoy them."
