Softball Drops Pair Of Close Decisions At Marshall

HUNTINGTON, WV - Toledo (7-20-1, 1-7 MAC) lost a pair of close contests this afternoon to Marshall (13-19, 6-4) at Dot Hicks Field. The Rockets dropped a 3-1 decision to the Thundering Herd in the opener before falling by a 1-0 margin in the nightcap.
Marshall opened the game's scoring with two runs in the bottom of the third on De'Shaun Drake's two-run double.
UT closed its deficit to a single run in the fifth on sophomore 2B Vicki Nelson's RBI single.
Freshman Kim Pettitt (3-9) took the loss for the Rockets allowing six hits and three runs (one earned) in six innings.
In the second game, Marshall plated the game's only run in the fifth inning with an unearned run.
Senior Colette McMasters (3-6) allowed just four hits in six innings of work.
Toledo returns home on Tuesday, April 9 for its first home game of the season at Scott Park. The Rockets will take on Youngstown State in a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
