Softball Loses And Ties At Cleveland State

Cleveland, OH - Toledo (7-16-1) rebounded for a 6-6 tie in the nightcap at Cleveland State (9-10-1) after suffering a 4-3 setback to the host Vikings in the first game of its doubleheader.
The second game was shortened to five innings due to rain and the Rockets let a potential win get away by allowing five runs in CSU's final at-bat.
Three Rockets registered a pair of hits in the contest -- junior LF Jenny Schaaf (2-for-2, 2 RBI), senior 1B Deanna House (2-for-3, 2 RBI) and freshman SS Jennifer Mielke (2-for-3) -- with freshman 3B Crystal Rizzuto notching two RBI.
Toledo plated one run in the first, two in the second and three in the third to take a 6-1 lead after three innings.
Senior Colette McMasters was hampered by the wet weather and took the loss. She allowed six runs (four earned), five walks and struck out four.
In the first game, the Rockets fell behind 4-0 after three innings. UT rallied to within 4-3 in the seventh inning and left the bases loaded to end the game.
House (2-for-4) and freshman Jessica Horn (2-for-4, RBI) led the Rockets offensively, while freshman Kim Pettitt (3-8) suffered the loss on the mound.
Toledo will travel to Ohio for a doubleheader on Saturday, April 6 before heading to Marshall on Sunday, April 7 for another twinbill.
