TOLEDO, OH - Toledo (4-1) returns to action this weekend when it opens its 2001 Mid-American Conference season with a two-match roadtrip to Miami (3-3) and Ball State (4-4).
The Rockets will be competing for the first time in 13 days after their scheduled participation in last weekend's Blue Demon Invitational was cancelled due to the national tragedy which occurred on Sept. 11.
Head Coach Kent Miller has put his team through its regular practice schedule during this time and believes his team will be ready to return to competition.
"It's been a challenge for the players to stay fresh," Miller said. "We will need to refocus ourselves for this weekend's matches. We're facing two quality opponents, and we'll need to play our best volleyball to be effective."
Miami and Ball State were also both idle last weekend as nearly every NCAA Division I women's volleyball program did not play. The RedHawks and Cardinals were each picked to finish second in the MAC's East and West Divisions, respectively.
Toledo opened its season by winning the Clarion Hotel Westgate Rocket Volleyball Classic on Aug. 31 - Sept. 1. UT then split its two matches at Wichita State's Shocker Invitational on Sept. 8.
