Phil Pilewski Named Rockets Captain for 2002 Baseball Campaign

Toledo, OH - Junior Phil Pilewski (Perrysburg, OH - Perrysburg) will serve as the captain for the Rockets' baseball program during the upcoming 2002 season, head baseball coach Joe Kruzel announced today.
Pilewski finished third in the MAC and 10th in the nation in overall hitting with a .433 mark and earned a spot on the All-MAC's second team. He also finished second in the conference in on-base percentage (.500) and sixth in slugging percentage (.702). He established two new school records for hits (74) and total bases (120) in a season, while also registering the second-most RBI (53) in school history.
Pilewski also surpassed UT's previous record (now held by Mitch Maier) for season batting average of .426 posted by Jeff Squires in the 1979 campaign.
Toledo opens its 2002 campaign on Saturday and Sunday, March 2-3, with a three-game series at Morehead State. The Rockets open their home campaign on Wednesday, March 20 vs. Detroit.
