Toledo (13-12, 3-2 MAC) split its doubleheader this afternoon vs. Ball State (12-13, 5-1 MAC) at Scott Park. The Rockets registered a 3-1 victory in the opener before dropping a 9-5 decision in the nightcap.
Senior Shawn Wilson (3-2) earned the victory by throwing a complete game in the opener. He allowed just three hits in seven innings, fanning 10 batters and walking none in his complete-game effort
The Rockets opened their scoring in the fourth on junior RF Jay Juras' RBI single. In the fifth, UT added to its lead on senior LF Andy Stetka's RBI single. Ball State came within a run on Brad Snyder's solo homer, but the Rockets added an insurance run thanks to a pair of Ball State errors in the bottom of the sixth.
In the second game, the Rockets jumped out to a 3-0 lead on junior 3B Mike Meinhart's RBI single in the first and sophomore SS J.D. Foust's two-run single in the fourth.
The Cardinals tied the game though in the fifth inning on Snyder's second homer of the day, a three-run shot to left field.
The contest remained knotted until the eighth inning when Ball State plated six runs to take a 9-3 lead and secure the victory.
The two teams square off again in the series finale tomorrow at Scott Park at 2:00 p.m.
