Baseball Drops Two Games to Ball State (April 29)

Toledo, OH - The University of Toledo baseball team (16-26, 5-13 MAC) dropped both games of a doubleheader to Ball State University (25-17) on Saturday, April 29. The Cardinals won the first game, 7-4, and took the nightcap, 6-4.
After scoring three runs in the fourth, the Rocket lead 4-2.
Eddie Ziemke scored on Mike Ernst's single to center field. With the bases loaded, Andy Stetka singled to right field to bring home Mario Wallace and Ernst.
The Cardinals scored two runs in the fifth and three in the sixth to pull the game our of Toledo's reach.
Leading the Rockets offensively were Ernst (2-3, 2 runs, 2 RBI, double) and Stetka (1-3, 1 RBI).
Shawn Wilson was the losing pitcher for the Rockets. Wilson (3-2) pitched 5.2 innings and gave up seven runs on 11 hits. He also struck out five.
In the nightcap, the Rockets scored two runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth to tie the game.
Leading off the fifth inning, Ziemke was hit by a pitch and went to second when Jason Stuecher was walked. On an Ernst fly out to right field, Ziemke advanced to third. Wallace hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Ziemke. J.D. Foust double down the left field line to bring Stuecher home.
The Cardinals came back, scoring one run in the fifth and sixth innings to win the game.
Leading the Rocket offensively were Foust (2-4, 1 run, 1 RBI, double) and Ricky Poland (1-2, 2 RBI).
The losing pitcher was Brad Webb (1-4). Webb pitched 5 innings and gave up five runs on 10 hits.
The Rocket and the Cardinals face each other for another twinbill on Sunday, April 30. The first game is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
