Brad Pierson serves as the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine at The University of Toledo, where he leads the day-to-day operations and strategic management of comprehensive healthcare services for student-athletes.
Since joining Toledo in 2013, Pierson has advanced into a senior leadership role within the sports medicine department. Pierson directs the operational workflow of the Savage Athletic Training Facility and manages key initiatives, including electronic medical records, supply chain coordination, and departmental policy development. He collaborates closely with campus and external healthcare partners to ensure effective and streamlined care for all student-athletes while maintaining compliance with institutional and NCAA standards.
Clinically, Pierson served as the primary athletic trainer for women’s basketball for over a decade (2013–24), providing comprehensive injury management and performance support. He currently provides patient care coverage for the men’s golf program while continuing to mentor athletic training staff and graduate assistants.
Pierson’s professional service includes leadership roles within the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) and the Great Lakes Athletic Trainers’ Association (GLATA), where he has contributed to initiatives focused on professional development and career advancement within the field.
In recognition of his contributions to the profession, Pierson was named the 2020 NATA/ICSM Division I Assistant Head Athletic Trainer of the Year.
Prior to Toledo, Pierson served as a staff athletic trainer at Eastern Michigan University and held an academic and clinical role at West Virginia University Institute of Technology.
Pierson earned his bachelor’s degree in athletic training from Alderson Broaddus University and a master’s degree in exercise physiology from Eastern Michigan University. He is a Board of Certification (BOC) certified athletic trainer and is licensed in the state of Ohio.
A native of Buffalo, W. Va., Pierson and his wife Bridget have two sons, Owen and Liam.
