Jim “Z” Zoltowski enters his second season as a volunteer assistant coach at Toledo.
Zoltowski comes from Hillsdale College where he was an assistant coach alongside current Rocket Softball head coach Joe Abraham. With Zoltowski’s assistance, the Chargers accumulated a 76-51 (14-8 GMAC, 32-16 GLIAC) record from 2016-18. Zoltowski’s tenure at Hillsdale was topped off in 2018 when the Chargers claimed the conference title in their first season of Great Midwest Athletic Conference play and later advanced to the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional.
Prior to his time at Hillsdale, Zoltowski was the head coach at Southview High School in Sylvania, Ohio from 2010-2015 where he garnered an 85-79 record. Under Zoltowski, Southview won a district title and went to the regional finals in 2011.
Before arriving at Southview, Zoltowski coached varsity softball at Milan High School in Milan, Mich. from 2000-06. At Milan, Zoltowski had a record of 78-122 and led his team to the first two district championships in school history (2003, 2005). Following his team’s performance in 2003, Zoltowski was named District Coach of the Year in the years 2003 and 2005.
Zoltowski is also highly active in the travel softball scene around Toledo. Zoltowski has coached with organizations including the Lady Irish, and Buckeye Heat Fastpitch. While coaching Buckeye Heat, Zoltowski took his 16U team to the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) Nationals in Montgomery, Alabama in 2012.
Zoltowski’s history also includes a year (1995) as head football coach at Romulus High School in Romulus, Mich. He has also held positions as assistant football coach at Milan, Romulus, and Southview. Zoltowski is an active member in Michigan and Ohio High School Football and Softball Coaches Associations.
A Sylvania, Ohio native, Zoltowski and his wife, Lisa, have been married for 28 years. The two have four children, Zachary, Chelsea, Madyson, and Zoe.
