Stevie Taylor enters his second season as the program’s Director of Operations after joining the program in April of 2022.
In Taylor's first season, Toledo made history as the Rockets became the first current MAC school ever to win three consecutive outright league titles. UT tied its school record with 27 victories, posted a 16-2 mark in league action and won the conference title by a game over Kent State. During its historical season, the Rockets set a school record with a 17-game winning streak that ranks fourth in MAC history. Junior RayJ Dennis became the second Rocket in the last three seasons to earn MAC Player of Year honors. Dennis and senior JT Shumate were each named First-Team All-MAC, marking the third time ever two Rockets were named in the same season. In addition, senior Setric Millner Jr. earned Second-Team All-MAC accolades. Shumate also became the third Rocket student-athlete ever to be named CSC First-Team Academic All-American on two occasions.
A Gahanna, Ohio native, Taylor spent the 2021-22 season as an assistant coach at Nicholls State, where he helped the Colonels to a 21-9 overall record and their second consecutive Southland Conference title. During his time at NSU, Taylor helped Ty Gordon earn Southland Player of the Year honors after he ranked ninth nationally with 21.6 ppg.
Prior to that, Taylor served a two-year stint as an assistant coach at Langston (Okla.) University from 2019-21. During his time with the Lions, he actively contributed to opponent scouting reports, on-court instruction, recruiting and overall student-athlete development.
Taylor also served as a graduate assistant coach at Boston College for two seasons (2017-19) where he learned the basics of coaching while helping with pre-game scouting, in-game adjustments and prospect database management.
Taylor played in 137 career games as a collegian at Ohio University with 34 starting assignments in his final two seasons. During his time in Athens, the Bobcats earned three postseason appearances and advanced to the NCAA Tournament on one occasion, reaching the Sweet Sixteen during his freshman campaign.
Following the conclusion of his collegiate career, Taylor played professionally for two seasons in Italy where he averaged 23.0 ppg.
Taylor earned his bachelor’s degree in University Studies from Ohio in May 2015 and his master’s degree in Sports Administration from Boston College in May 2019.
