Rockets to face toughest non-league schedule in program history with visit to Spartans on Nov. 5 and Wolverines on Dec. 30; Home opener vs. Wright State on Nov. 10
TOLEDO, Ohio – A pair of road games at preseason Top 10 programs Michigan and Michigan State will highlight the Toledo men's basketball team's 2026-27 non-conference schedule, Head Coach Tod Kowalczyk announced today. The combined overall record for the Rockets' non-conference opponents is 199-105 (.655), making it the toughest non-league slate in program history. In addition, every opponent on the schedule had a .500 record or better last year and six registered a first- or second-place finish or better,
"Playing two Top 10 schools like Michigan and Michigan State in non-conference road games will be a tremendous challenge for us," Kowalczyk said. "It will be an opportunity to test ourselves against the best in the country and will give us a very strong schedule that will prepare us for Mid-American Conference play."
Toledo will open its campaign with three road games in the season's first week, starting with its MAC-Sun Belt Challenge game at Arkansas State (Nov. 2) followed by trips to East Lansing to face Michigan State (Nov. 5) and Huntington, W. Va. to meet Marshall (Nov. 7).
The Rockets will return to Savage Arena to face Wright State in their home opener on Tuesday, Nov. 10 before heading back out on the road to take on Detroit Mercy (Nov. 14). UT will close out a busy month of November with a home game vs. Robert Morris (Nov. 19) and a road matchup against Valparaiso (Nov. 28).
The Rockets' first two weeks of December will be filled with conference contests. Toledo's remaining non-conference dates will be vs. Oakland (Dec. 16), at Michigan (Dec. 30) and a home matchup on Feb. 6 as part of the MAC-SBC Challenge.

Toledo registered its ninth-straight winning season last year with a 19-15 record under Head Coach Tod Kowalczyk. The 2025-26 campaign saw Toledo make a run to the MAC Championship Game after earning a top-four seed in the tournament for a sixth-straight season. The Rockets defeated Bowling Green (77-76) in the quarterfinals and UMass (77-67) in the semifinals before falling in the championship game to Akron (79-76).
The Rockets have not experienced a losing season since Kowalczyk's first year in the 2010-11 season and have won five Mid-American Conference titles during his tenure.
