Men’s and Women’s Tennis open up their fall seasons this weekend

MEN'S GOLF
Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 21-22 / Chicago Highlands Invitational / Westchester, Ill. / Live Scoring

Men's Golf is competing at the Chicago Highlands Invitational in Westchester, Ill. on Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 21-22. The Rockets will play 36 holes on the first day of competition followed by 18 holes tomorrow. Toledo will be competing against a 12-team field that includes Mid-American Conference foe Eastern Michigan as well as East Tennessee State, Indiana, Maryland and Wake Forest. Toledo tied for second place at the Inverness Intercollegiate last week for its best finish ever in the tournament's history, which began in 2000. Junior Bence Bertenyi captured the individual title by shooting a three-under par 210 against a loaded field that included five teams ranked in the top 10 of the Bushnell/Golfweek Division I Preseason Coaches Poll and several of the top amateurs in the world.

MEN'S TENNIS

Men's Tennis begins the 2026 fall season by hosting the annual Everybody vs. Cancer Invitational at the UT Varsity Tennis Courts and Shadow Valley Tennis Club. The Rockets will compete against Case Western Reserve, Grand Valley State, IU Indy, Tiffin and Wayne State with action beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Friday. The team returns four letterwinners from last season while bringing in three newcomers. Donations can be made to the American Cancer Society here.

WOMEN'S TENNIS
Friday-Saturday, Sept. 25-26 / at EMU Hidden Duals / Ypsilanti, Mich.

Women's Tennis opens up the 2026 fall slate at the EMU Hidden Duals in Ypsilanti, Mich. this weekend. The reigning MAC Champions will compete in singles and doubles competitions against Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan and Ferris State beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday. The team returns seven letterwinners from the 2026 championship squad and welcomes in two newcomers.

Volleyball kicks off Mid-American Conference play with a pair of road matches this weekend, starting with Akron on Friday, Sept. 25 and wrapping up at Buffalo on Sunday, Sept. 27. Toledo (8-2) closed out non-conference competition by posting a 3-2 win over Missouri before falling to Dayton, 3-2. The victory over Missouri was the first time since 1990 that UT has won two consecutive matches over 'Power 4' opponents. Ava Siefke leads the offense with 107 total kills while Grace Freiberger is pacing the offense with 148 digs (3.89 digs/set).

WOMEN'S SOCCER

Women's Soccer plays at home against Western Michigan, in a key Mid-American Conference matchup against the league's preseason favorite. Kickoff from Paul Hotmer Field is at 7 p.m. on ESPN+. Both Toledo and Western Michigan are 1-0-1 (4 PTS) and tied for second place in the Mid-American Conference standings through two matches. Toledo won 1-0 over Kent State on Thursday, with a second-half winner from Carys Bourbeau, before drawing at Buffalo, 0-0. Bourbeau scored her first career goal in the win over KSU. Toledo's defense did not allow a corner kick at Buffalo. In goal, Paige Dornheggen posted two clean sheets, with 12 saves combined.

WOMEN'S GOLF

Women's Golf will travel to South Bend, Ind. to compete in Notre Dame's Fighting Irish Invitational on Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 26-27. The 54-hole tournament will include 36 holes of action on the first day followed by 18 holes on the final day. The 13-team field includes Big Ten programs Purdue and Wisconsin as well as Mid-American Conference member Ball State and the host Fighting Irish. Junior Valeria Lizcano led the way for UT at last week's Rocket Classic by tying for 12^th place with a 17-over par 230.

FOOTBALL

Coming off a miraculous comeback win, the Rockets (2-1) host San Diego State (1-2) at the Glass Bowl on Saturday. Kickoff will be at noon on CBS Sports Network and the Rocket Radio Network. Tickets are available at UTRockets.com/tickets. The Family Weekend game will also be Youth Sports Day at the Glass Bowl, recognizing young athletes from across the region. The Rockets trailed 42-28 in the final minutes against Temple, but scored two touchdowns in 11 seconds to force overtime, recovering an onside kick in between the scores. Then, Toledo stopped a 2-point conversion to win in OT.
