Senior middle blocker earns the Rockets’ first conference honor of the year
TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo middle blocker Kayla Ozanich was named the Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, the league office announced. This is Toledo's first conference honor of the season.
Ozanich led the Toledo offense to an undefeated weekend at the West Virginia Invitational as the squad posted wins over Lehigh, VCU and West Virginia. The 3-2 victory over West Virginia was the first 'Power 4' win since Aug. 28, 2022 when Toledo took down Arizona State 3-0.
The Okemos, Mich. native fired off a team-best 37 kills, averaging 3.08 kills/set, with only two errors for a .522 clip throughout the tournament. She had double-figure kills in all three matches, including tying her season high in kills with 13 on a career-best .684 hitting percentage against the Mountaineers.
Ozanich also led the team in blocks, totaling 11 and averaging 0.92 blocks/set. The senior is firing off 2.64 kills/set and 0.68 blocks/set so far this season to go along with a .438 clip, a mark that ranks top-three in the league.
Ozanich and the Rockets return to Savage Arena to host Missouri and Dayton this weekend. UT will face Missouri on Friday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. before hosting Dayton on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 11 a.m. Tickets are available at UTRockets.com/VBTix.
