JJ Scholten Named MAC Female Scholar Athlete of the Week

TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo sophomore JJ Scholten was named the Mid-American Conference Female Scholar Athlete of the Week, the league office announced.

Scholten earned the honor after helping lead Toledo women's tennis to its second-ever MAC Championship. The Arlington, Va. native was named the MAC Tournament MVP after going 2-0 in singles matches in the conference tournament. She posted a 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 victory on the No. 2 singles court to clinch match point and upset No. 2 seed Buffalo in the semifinals.

In the championship match, Scholten cruised to a 6-0 win on the No. 3 doubles court with partner Iva Jankovic before firing off a straight-set win on the No. 2 court against the RedHawks to bring home the championship.

Scholten owns a 3.889 GPA as a neuroscience major.

The MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week award is given to one male and one female student-athlete from its conference institutions who has at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA and has a worthy performance during that week's competition.
