Rockets and Gators to meet for the first time in history in Ann Arbor, Mich. on Saturday
TOLEDO, Ohio – For the second time in program history, the Toledo women's tennis team will play in the NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championships. The Rockets will take on Florida in first-round action on Saturday, May 2 at 10:00 a.m. in Ann Arbor, Mich. This marks the first-ever meeting between the Rockets and Gators.
Admission to the Varsity Tennis Center at the University of Michigan is free.
The team gathered in the Venture Courtside Club at Savage Arena to watch the NCAA Selection Show on Monday evening as the full bracket was unveiled.
The Rockets own a 13-8 overall record and earned their spot in the NCAA Championship after defeating Miami, 4-2, in the Mid-American Conference Tournament Championship match on Sunday, April 26. UT took down Buffalo 4-1 in the MAC Tournament Semifinal. Sophomore JJ Scholten was named Tournament MVP while freshman Anastasia Akuginova earned All-Tournament accolades.
Florida concluded the regular season with a 16-7 record, finishing sixth in the SEC. The Gators were ranked No. 14 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) team rankings. UF boasts two doubles teams ranked in the top-45 and four singles players in the top-105 players in the nation.
Quoting Head Coach Tracy Mauntler
"The thing I am most proud about is that none of the players that won the 2026 MAC title played in our last MAC Championship in 2024. Every single person that played for us this past weekend had never experienced a championship match before, and I think that says a lot about our program. This team has paved their own way and they're playing great right now."
Quoting Sophomore Neha Guru
"It's the first time for a lot of us on the team to win the conference championship and experience seeing our name on the selection show. NCAA means so much in college sports and getting to see Toledo in the bracket is a surreal feeling. We're at our best in both singles and doubles play right now and we're looking forward to playing Florida this week."
