Scholten named First Team All-MAC for second-straight season
TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo freshman Isabella Barretto and sophomore JJ Scholten earned First Team All-MAC women's tennis honors, the Mid-American Conference announced on Wednesday. This is the fourth time in program history the Rockets have had two players earn first-team accolades and first since 2024 (Cassie Alcala and Sloane Teske).
This is Barretto's first conference accolade of her career after an impressive 22-9 overall singles record while playing primarily on the No. 2 court as a freshman. She posted a 5-2 mark in league play with wins over Northern Illinois, Western Michigan, Buffalo and Ball State. Barretto was named MAC Singles Player of the Week on April 13 after clinching match point on the top singles court to take down UMass.
In doubles play, Barretto recorded an 18-10 doubles record playing mostly on the No. 1 court. Her 5-2 record in MAC competition included wins over Miami, Buffalo and UMass. She was named the conference's doubles team of the week alongside Neha Guru after starting the 2026 dual season with wins over Oakland and Dayton.
Scholten was named to the First Team All-MAC for the second consecutive season. The sophomore tallied an overall 21-10 singles record and a 6-2 mark in MAC play. Playing primarily on the No. 1 court, Scholten earned wins over Miami, Northern Illinois, Western Michigan, Ball State, UMass and Bowling Green. The Arlington, Va. native tallied eight doubles wins throughout the year as well, including victories over Duquesne and Cleveland State.
Toledo (11-8, 6-2 MAC) kicks off the 2026 MAC Tournament on Saturday, April 25. The Rockets are the No. 3 seed and will take on No. 2 seed Buffalo at 2:00 p.m. in Oxford, Ohio.
