Barretto goes 2-0 in league play on top singles court
TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo women's tennis freshman Isabella Barretto named the Mid-American Conference Singles Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Barretto moved up to the No. 1 singles position and earned two MAC wins on the weekend. She tallied a 6-3, 6-2 win over Ball State on Friday for her first dual win on the top singles position to help the Rockets pick up a 4-3 win over the Cardinals.
In the weekend finale, Barretto clinched match point with a 7-6, 7-6 (7-3) victory on the No. 1 court to hand UMass its first conference loss of the season. The win helped UT earn a top-four finish in the league and advance into the MAC Tournament.
The freshman moves to 5-2 in MAC play and 2-0 in the top singles position.
Toledo will conclude the regular season on Sunday, April 19 with the Battle of I-75, presented by Fremont Federal Credit Union. MAC Tournament action begins on Saturday, April 25 in Oxford, Ohio.
