Detroit, Mich. native ranks in MAC's Top 10 in four different categories
TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo's Leroy Blyden Jr. has been named a finalist for the Kyle Macy National Freshman of the Year award, CollegeInsider.com announced today. Blyden was announced as a unanimous selection for Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year earlier today.
Blyden leads MAC freshmen with 16.2 ppg and has registered the most points (502) by a freshman in UT history. He ranks in the MAC's Top 10 with an 85.5 FT% (3rd), 1.7 spg (4th), 4.5 apg (7th) and 16.2 ppg (9th).
Blyden opened league play with a 36-point outing vs. Western Michigan (Dec. 30), the most by a Rocket freshman in 25 years. He then capped off the conference campaign with a 20-point, season-high 13-assist, seven-rebound outing vs. Buffalo (March 6). His 13 assists vs. the Bulls were one shy of a school record and the most by a Rocket in 44 years.
Toledo will begin Mid-American Conference Tournament play tomorrow when it faces Bowling Green in the quarterfinals at Rocket Arena in Cleveland, Ohio. The contest will be streamed on ESPN+ with a tip-off time of approximately 1:30 p.m.
