AKRON, Ohio – The Toledo women's basketball team was locked in a back-and-forth battle all night, but the Rockets came up a possession short at Akron, 77-74 at James A. Rhodes Arena Wednesday night.
Â
The Rockets (11-9, 6-4 MAC) rallied to tie things at halftime, 35-35. Toledo trailed after three quarters, 56-50, but rallied in the fourth to briefly take a 63-61 lead. However, the Zips (5-17, 2-8 MAC) took back the lead and held it over the final 5:08, despite the Rockets getting within one possession four different times in the final four minutes. The game totaled 13 ties and nine lead changes.
Â
Akron's three-point shooting effort made the difference, as the Zips made 10-of-20 from beyond the arc, compared to just 4-of-12 from the Rockets. Toledo won the rebounding battle, 36-30, but could not take advantage as Akron led in second-chance points, 14-13.
Â
Quoting Head Coach Ginny Boggess
"Credit to Akron for a great gameplan. They made great shots down the stretch, isolated us 1-on-1 and took advantage of our weaker defenders. We missed a lot of bunnies that we've got to put in, and we have to do a better job fighting for 40 minutes."
